Chinese New Year

Here's a scenario: It's Chinese New Year (or whatever important event/festival that goes for you), you're alone, in some foreign country. That's what I've been through this year. To be honest, it's not half bad lol other than the no angpow part. What I did was found some Chinese coursemates and made our own CNY dinner.

We went to the nearby asian market (aka Vietnamese market) to score ourselves some nice ingredients for our dinner. This is the only part of town which feels like CNY, with all the decorations and musics. Funny how I hated the musics while I'm home but they seems nice when I'm here, far away from home. I wanted to buy some CNY deco for our room but instead got voted against me by my coursemates :(

I dare to say our cooking skills are improving at an awsome rate. We decided to make more dishes than usual, and opt to each of us provide one dish. Chin offered to do some prawns, while Kewen wanted to make soup for us, and some teriyaki-sauce-stir-fried-pork-ribs, Eric did the veges and I, cheated. I bought a whole roasted chicken from Wolly's. Yeah, yeah I'm lazy and that ain't fair blah blah, at least everyone is happy bout the taste of the chicken. LOL

Everything turned out nice, the rice aren't too dry nor too wet (which is a big accomplishment for us since the microwave rice cooker sucks at making the rice just right), the ribs are awsome, soup is nice albeit a lil on the sweet side, veges are crisp and good... Everything except the prawns, seems like Master Chef Chin forgot to clean the shit out of the prawns, in the end nobody ate it, poor Chin as he put so much heart into making the prawns, it could have been the best prawns if he used as much brains XD

In the end, at least we manage to get together and have a decent dinner, fulfilled one of the festival spirit. After the dinner we toasted off in our balcony while watching a nice sunset. Of course we (well, at least I did) made some new year resolution and wishes. Mine was simple, just wanna finish my course and get the hell out of here.
